Military Discharge Document Recording
The Franklin County Recorder's Office encourages veterans to record their military discharge documents (DD214s) with our office for safekeeping.
Original or certified copies of discharge records are accepted for recording during normal business hours. Upon recording, the original document will be immediately returned along with an extra certified copy. These documents are not viewable in our online search to protect the identity of the veteran. There is no cost associated with this service for our veterans.

"I first found out about the Veteran ID Card service when I was looking for Ohio military veteran benefits. I came across a flyer that mentioned the Military Discharge Document Recording (for safekeeping) and Veterans ID Cards from the Franklin County Recorder's office. I was curious and gave them a call to inquire. The service was very fast and easy to complete, available to all veterans, they scanned my DD214 and issued me on the spot an official Veteran ID from the State Of Ohio, no longer needing to carry my retired military ID to receive benefits as a Veteran. I am very happy for this service and what they do for military veterans!"

Veteran ID Cards
This program allows any veteran who records their DD214 with our office and who was discharged from service with any distinction except dishonorable, to obtain a Veteran Identification Card from our office. This card is a valid form of identification by the State of Ohio and displays a photograph of the veteran, military service dates, and other pertinent information regarding the veteran's service to our country. This card contains the veteran's specific document number, so the discharge record can be rapidly located when needed. The Veteran ID Card is provided free of charge.
